The examples are generally excellent, but Smyslov didn’t provide enough analysis for my money. If you wanted the same kind of thing but with more analysis then the Karpov book is exactly what you’re looking for. Karolyi’s Karpov book is truely amazing.

The book is already showing a lot of promise as there is an Endgame Classification at the end where endgames are sorted by their type: In the extensively analysed examples, the author tends to rely heavily on allready publicized analysis by others I have been curious what he did find out, while analysing with Leko To make this reaction come to pass, Karolyi gives biographical material at key junctures and adds lots of interesting prose to the notes.

Tom marked it as to-read May 31, It seemed to me that, for the moment, the three mighty tomes listed above have given us all we need karpob the encyclopedic category. There are a lot of diagrams which usually means that they show critical positions and can be used as exercises.

I’m curious because my repertoire with Black is very similar to Karpov’s so the book could be even more useful He places the examples in four chapters: Apparently it covers critical games from Karpov’s career.

Want to Read saving…. This antoly is not yet featured on Listopia. Karolyi showed good sense with his design. Let us see what Karpov did. Karolyi talks about how when he was a trainer for Leko that the main thing that they worked on in the endgame was to go through many of Karpov’s endgames.

Want to Read Currently Endagme Read. Hello, Will nedgame to get this book by the sound of it, found Karolyi’s books on Kasparov excellent. Finally, one minor point about the sources listed. But I imagine that one endgame can take up to a few hours so it is unrealistic to study all of them unless you dedicate your life to this task. What else might one ask of a single piece?
